The island Silba is situated on the South East of the island Lošinj. It's often called 'the pedestrian island' because the car and motorbike traffic is forbidden there. In July and August the bicycle traffic is also forbidden (in other months is allowed). Silba disposes with a surface of 15 sq km, it's 8,3 km long and 3,3 km wide. Watched from the air the island has a shape of the number 8. In the narrowest part of the '8' the island is only 800 m wide and here is situated the settlement Silba, only settlement on the island with 270 residential inhabitants. The nearest town on the shore is Zadar which is 30 nautical miles away. There are no hotels on Silba. The comfort pension accommodation is organized in private family houses. This destination is an ideal choice for families with children. The island provides many picturesque beaches and lagoons, like few restaurants, taverns and coffee bars. |
